How To Use Mounjaro KwikPen

What Is Mounjaro and How Is It Taken

Mounjaro is supplied as a pre-filled injection pen containing a fixed weekly dose. It is injected under the skin once per week, on the same day each week. The injection is not taken daily and should never be injected into a vein or muscle.

Each pen is designed for ease of use and includes a hidden needle system to reduce discomfort.

What You Will Need Before Injecting
Before using Mounjaro, make sure you have:
• Your Mounjaro KwikPen
• A new needle (if supplied separately)
• An alcohol wipe
• A sharps bin for safe disposal

Always check the label to confirm the correct dose and ensure the medicine is within its expiry date.

Where to Inject Mounjaro
Mounjaro is injected into the fatty tissue just under the skin. Recommended injection sites include:
• Abdomen (at least 5 cm away from the belly button)
• Front of the thighs
• Upper outer arm (if someone else is administering the injection)

Rotate injection sites each week to reduce irritation and skin discomfort.

How to Use the Mounjaro KwikPen – Step by Step

  1. Wash your hands thoroughly

  2. Remove the pen cap and check the medicine is clear and colourless

  3. Attach a new needle if required and remove the needle caps

  4. Select the full dose as instructed

  5. Clean the injection site with an alcohol wipe

  6. Insert the needle into the skin at a 90-degree angle

  7. Press and hold the injection button until it stops

  8. Slowly count to five to ensure the full dose is delivered

  9. Remove the needle and dispose of it safely in a sharps bin

Always check the dose window shows zero after injection to confirm the dose has been delivered.

How Often to Take Mounjaro

Mounjaro is taken once weekly, on the same day each week. You can take it at any time of day, with or without food.

If you miss a dose and it is within four days of your scheduled injection, take it as soon as possible. If more than four days have passed, skip the missed dose and take the next dose on your usual day.

Do not take two doses within the same week.

Starting Dose and Dose Increases

Most patients begin on a low starting dose to allow the body to adjust. The dose may be increased gradually over time depending on response and tolerance.

Never increase your dose unless instructed by your prescriber.

Storage Instructions

Before first use, Mounjaro should be stored in a refrigerator. Once in use, it can be kept at room temperature for a limited time as advised by your pharmacy.

Do not freeze Mounjaro and do not use it if it has been exposed to extreme temperatures.
