Dulcolax is used for constipation, but what is constipation?

When your digestive system isn’t functioning properly—causing difficult or infrequent bowel movements, you might be constipated. Being regular can range from three bowel movements a day to three times a week depending on your age, what you eat and your daily exercise.

So what causes it, anyway?

Every action has a reaction. Certain diet and lifestyle choices, as well as physiological changes, surgery and medications can trigger constipation. When stools cannot quickly pass through your digestive system, they become hard and dry.

Let’s talk digestion.

You eat, food travels through your body, you poo. When movement stops or excess water absorbs into the bloodstream, constipation occurs.

Symptoms to expect, before using Dulcolax

  • Painful, difficult bowel movements
  • Dry, hard stools
  • Excessive straining when passing stools
  • Wind, bloating and abdominal discomfort
  • Feeling the need to go again immediately after a bowel movement
  • Fewer than 3 bowel movements per week

How does Dulcolax work?

Dulcolax contains Bisacodyl. It works by stimulating the bowel muscles to help accumulate water in the intestines. This helps to soften the stool and produce a bowel movement more quickly. Predictable overnight relief in 6-12 hours. If taken at night, you should be able to go to the toilet within 6-12 hours, in the comfort of your own home. Has a gastro-resistant coating to the product so it only works where needed. Small easy to swallow tablets, handy for travelling. It is recommended to use changes in diet and bulk forming medicines first.

Some things you should know about Dulcolax

  • It does not help with weight loss
  • Overuse can be harmful

  • If laxatives are needed for more than 5 days in a row consult your doctor
